Wrexham Industrial Estate Link Road gets the go ahead

The new link road to Wrexham Industrial Estate looks set to go ahead after councillors voted unanimously in favour of the proposed route. Two concerned parties – Wrexham Golf Club and the Gredlington Arms – voiced their concerns but Wrexham Council’s planning committee gave the go-ahead, subject to conditions, for two separate applications for the construction of the Wrexham Industrial Estate access road.

The route chosen, the ‘blue route’, includes a Northern section, at the A5156 between Borras Road and Holt Road and a Southern section at land on the junction of Bridge Road South and land between the junction of the Cefn Road and Bridge Road South and the A525.

The permission includes the dualling of the existing road, new dual carriageways, a new single carriageway, improvements, new bridges and associated new roundabouts, lighting and drainage.

SA Harrison Hardware - a ‘Village Institution’ - wins top retail award

A traditional family-run business in Wrexham has been deemed “Best Rural Retailer” and recognised as the regional winner for North Wales and Cheshire in the traditional business category of the Countryside Alliance Awards.

The store, SA Harrison Hardware, gifts and pet supplies, in Coedpoeth was taken over in July 2006, by Steve Harrison who gave up his job as head caretaker at Ysgol Rhiwabon to achieve his life’s ambition to have his own small shop.

Christmas sales worse than expected

Latest figures show that retailers endured a “worse than expected” Christmas period with sales in December at their weakest rate for three years. The British Retail Consortium said that like-for-like UK sales rose 0.3 per cent last month compared to 2.5 per cent growth in December 2006. BRC director general Kevin Hawkins has called on the Bank of England to cut interest rates from 5.5 per cent this week to boost high street spending.
