BT Business is searching for Wales’ most inspiring entrepreneurs in the Essence of the Entrepreneur competition. The BT Business Essence of the Entrepreneur competition celebrates the achievements that entrepreneurs are making through the application of technology.

HSBC Bank is making a final call to all new companies to enter this year’s Start-Up Stars Awards which is an annual search for the UK’s most promising atart-up businesses.

Any fledgling firm less than three years old can enter. Top prize is £50,000.

Businesses in North Wales are supporting a new business award that aims to identify Wales’ most innovative companies and organisations.

The inaugural Wales Innovation Award, run by not-for-profit registered charity Wales Quality Centre (WQC) in association with award sponsor Penn Pharmaceutical Services, was launched at the Talardy Hotel, St Asaph.

The award scheme is open to entries from the public, private and charitable sectors and the award judges will be looking for evidence of how a product, practice or service has been developed over time and how it can be distinguished from its rivals.

Workshops are being held April, May and June to help entrants with their submissions ahead of the closing date on September 19. Winners will be announced at the Wales Quality Award Dinner in Cardiff on November 10.

The Wales Innovation Award is a new target for Welsh Industry and Welsh organisations. Innovation is a key business tool that has helped companies large and small exceed expectations year on year by adopting new thought processes or developing new products or services. Businesses from North Wales are being urged to enter the Wales International Trade Awards. Twelve regional winners, including one from Wales, will attend a gala awards ceremony early in 2009 at which the overall UK winner for 2008 will be announced.

Companies, organisations and individuals are being encouraged to take part in the 2008 National Training Awards (NTA).

Acknowledged as the UK’s top training accolade, the awards celebrate outstanding organisations and individuals who have achieved success through investment in training and development.

Last year’s Welsh NTA winners included Wrexham-based companies Coxeys Accountants and Pendine Park Care Homes.

The awards in Wales are managed by the Welsh Assembly Government in partnership with UK Skills. A free NTA information session offering an overview of the awards with helpful tips on how to prepare an entry will be held in Wrexham on Wednesday March 12.

Kronospan, based in Chirk, Wrexham, is one of the finalists in the prestigious Wales Business and Sustainability Awards 2007. The company has been shortlisted in the Resource Efficiency in Business category.

The judges are looking for Welsh companies who are making the greatest contribution in reducing environmental impact, in particular by recycling, sustainability and the use of renewable resources.

The finals of these prestigious awards will be announced at the Ramada Hotel in Wrexham and the Marriott Hotel in Cardiff on October 18 2007.
